Interactive Project
AprilAge came to Ollon wanting to turn its face and body aging visualization into a hands on exhibit people could experience directly, not just a lab demo or a printout of results. Ollon designed that experience around a walk up kiosk format, letting a visitor step in, take a photo, and watch decades of projected aging play out in front of them as an interactive attraction rather than a passive display. The exhibit approach caught on with the science centers and health organizations hosting it, prompting requests for the same interactive experience at new venues. What started as one installation became a template AprilAge and Ollon kept adapting for new locations for well over a decade.
Machine Learning
Predicting how a person's face will change over decades based on lifestyle factors like smoking or sun exposure meant building a genuine machine learning model, not a simple photo filter. Ollon developed that predictive facial aging engine as chief architect on the project, then later extended the same approach to build a body morphing engine that expanded what the platform could visualize beyond the face. That technical foundation is what let AprilAge's visualization hold up to the independent research and controlled studies that later validated its effect on behavior, including notably higher smoking cessation rates among users. The predictive engine built years ago is still the core of a product now used internationally.
Kiosk application development
Getting a predictive aging experience in front of the public meant building it for self operated touch screen kiosks that could run unattended in a science center for years, not just a demo running on a laptop. Ollon built and deployed that kiosk application across more than 30 science centers worldwide, supporting custom branding for each venue and letting visitors share, email, or print their aged photo before walking away, then continued supporting those installations well past the original build, including recent work on a specific venue's installer package and its remote control application. That ongoing, kiosk specific support is what has kept installations running reliably in public spaces for over a decade.
Mobile Application Development
Reaching people outside a science center kiosk meant AprilAge's aging visualization also needed to work as a mobile experience people could use directly on their own phones. Ollon built that mobile application across iOS and Android using Xamarin, giving AprilAge a cross platform codebase instead of maintaining two entirely separate native applications for the same experience. That shared codebase meant new features built for the visualization engine could reach both platforms without duplicating the work twice. The mobile applications extended AprilAge's reach beyond the physical kiosk installations to anyone with a smartphone.
Fractional CTO and fractional technical leadership
AprilAge needed a chief architect who could take its vision for a predictive aging tool and turn it into working software across half a dozen platforms, from kiosks to mobile to web. Ollon's founder served as that architect and fractional CTO from the earliest stages of the product, a role the company's own managing director has credited directly with taking the platform from an early prototype to software used internationally. That leadership continued for well over a decade, with the same technical direction and even some of the same team members still supporting AprilAge today, an ongoing technical partnership rather than a single project engagement.
Startup lifecycle support
Ollon has supported AprilAge from its early days forward, through more than a decade of growth into a product now used internationally. That support spanned building the original platform, expanding it with a body morphing engine, and continuing maintenance and feature work through today. Because of that continuity, AprilAge never had to rebuild institutional knowledge with a new technical partner as the company grew. AprilAge has never exited, so this long partnership is itself the story, a startup that grew into an established, international product while keeping the same technical partner the entire way.
