Reinsurance Company

Modernizing regulatory filings for reinsurance

A reinsurance company using Microsoft Dynamics needed to modernize regulatory filing after their IBM contract ended and the development team left. Ollon reverse engineered the Dynamics environment and built automated workflows, security roles, and audit logging. The company now runs an automated filing platform with detailed audit logs, reducing manual effort and compliance risk.

A reinsurance company faced challenges with its internal regulatory filing system after its contract with IBM ended and the original development team rolled off. Their in house members lacked Dynamics expertise and struggled to maintain and extend the application. They needed an efficient, organized solution that would let the business team track, action and automatically generate regulatory filings.

Ollon partnered closely with the company's small development team to reverse engineer the existing Dynamics environment and map out each filing stage in a clear user journey. We built custom Dynamics plugins, business process flows and Power Automate cloud flows, leveraged PowerApps, Azure Blob Storage, Active Directory security roles and Azure DevOps pipelines to automate filing creation, notifications and secure, role based access. Comprehensive logging, documentation and a payment integration module for third party vendors were delivered alongside a best practice blueprint for future development.

The company now operates a secure, automated regulatory filing platform that assigns tasks, enforces permissions and provides detailed audit logs, significantly reducing manual effort and compliance risk. The business team can efficiently track and action filings, and the documentation and training we provided serve as a foundation for continuous improvement. Next steps include expanding automation to additional filing types, developing Power BI dashboards for real time insights and iterating workflows to meet evolving regulatory requirements.

Our Expertise in Action

Application Triage and Rescue

When the original Dynamics 365 team rolled off after an IBM contract ended, a reinsurance company was left with a regulatory filing system that internal staff could not maintain or extend. Ollon stepped in to reverse engineer the existing environment, tracing plugins, workflows and business logic before touching any code. The team mapped every filing stage into a clear user journey, then rebuilt automation and security on top of what was already there. What had been an unmaintainable system became a documented, working platform the internal team could rely on.

Vendor Transition Support

When a reinsurance company's contract with its outgoing IBM team ended, its regulatory filing system was left without a vendor to support it, and no handover process was in place to bridge the gap. Ollon took over that relationship directly, embedding daily with the company's own small internal team. The filing system stayed supported and continued improving without interruption through the change, and that same working relationship has continued well past the original transition period.

Team Mentoring and Coaching

After a reinsurance company's original Dynamics 365 developers left, the small internal team that remained did not have the platform expertise to keep the regulatory filing system running, let alone extend it. Ollon worked directly alongside that team, explaining the platform's logic and decisions as questions came up so the knowledge stayed with the company's own people. Documentation and a best practices blueprint were delivered so the internal team could take on future enhancements themselves, with training folded into how they now approach ongoing filing changes.

Microsoft Dynamics 365

A reinsurance company needed one system to track, action, and generate its regulatory filings automatically, built on the Dynamics 365 environment already in place. Ollon extended that environment with custom plugins, business process flows, and Power Automate cloud flows to automate filing creation. Role based security was added using Azure Active Directory integration and Dynamics security roles, with PowerApps for user interfaces, Azure Blob Storage for document management, and Azure DevOps pipelines for deployment. The result is a fully integrated Microsoft ecosystem that automates the filing process while giving the business team clear access controls.

Workflow Automation

A reinsurance company's regulatory filings moved through creation, assignment, and notification manually, leaving no reliable record of who acted on what during compliance audits. Ollon automated the process using Power Automate and Dynamics workflows, routing filings through business process flows, assigning tasks to the right team members by role, and triggering notifications automatically. Audit logging was added throughout, giving compliance teams a full record to support frequent internal reviews. Custom integrations also handled third party payment processing and vendor management, with permissions limiting sensitive filing data to authorized staff at each stage.

Azure DevOps

Releases for a reinsurance company's regulatory filing platform had to move through development, QAT, and UAT before reaching production, each stage needing approval from the client's business team as well as its own developers. Ollon built the Azure DevOps pipelines that carried filing automation changes across those environments, repackaging solutions whenever patch conflicts surfaced during deployment. A small, steady pair of developers ran daily standups with the client's team to keep releases and approvals synchronized while the client's own staff was still building deployment experience. That cadence kept regulatory filing updates reaching production reliably despite recurring environment and permission issues.

Microsoft Power Platform

A reinsurance company's business team needed to work with filings and reporting directly, without routing every task through Dynamics forms built for developers to maintain. PowerApps interfaces gave staff direct access to daily filing tasks, while Power Automate flows filled in payment fields and routed approvals, a system Ollon corrected when those fields failed to populate properly as payment volume grew. Power BI reporting work also began with the client's analyst, producing initial reports ahead of a planned expansion into filing dashboards. Together, these tools gave the business team direct control over filings and reporting, with Ollon resolving the automation issues that came with scale.
