Tread

Construction Material platform

Tread, a construction materials and invoicing platform, lost its CTO and development staff right after its first VC round, leaving a gap in its ability to ship on time. Ollon joined Tread's team to fill that gap, building invoicing and analytics features alongside the existing developers. Ollon stayed on as a core part of the team for 1.5 years as Tread grew into a successful startup.

Tread is a platform that enables the movement of construction materials along with invoicing for independent truckers. We were approached by Tread after their first round of VC investments. They had tight timelines and needed to expand the product & development.

Ollon joined the team to compliment their existing development team. With the hiring of the new CTO, there had recently been an unexpected turnover in staff leaving a large gap in their ability to deliver the product on time.

Ollon became a critical part of the development team for 1.5 years. We developed a wide variety of system features including invoicing and analtyics. Tread is now a succesfull start up and we were a contributing factor to their success.

Our Expertise in Action

Team augmentation and staff scaling

Tread had just closed its first round of VC funding and needed to expand its product and development work quickly, on a tight timeline. Around the same time, a new CTO came on board and an unexpected round of staff turnover left a gap in the existing development team's ability to deliver on schedule. Ollon joined that team to fill the gap, working alongside Tread's remaining developers instead of running a separate effort. The augmented team stayed in place for a year and a half, giving Tread consistent development capacity through its early scaling period.

Mobile Application Development

Tread's product connects independent truckers moving construction materials with invoicing for that work, a use case that depends on drivers being able to use the platform from the road. Ollon built the mobile application in React Native, connecting it to a Node.js and GraphQL backend so trucker facing features stayed in sync with the rest of the platform. The mobile app carried core platform functionality, including invoicing, directly to truckers, not just to a desktop interface. That mobile access supported Tread's daily trucking and invoicing operations throughout the engagement.

VC funded startup scaling

A VC round comes with a growth clock attached: investors expect the product to move fast enough to justify the round already closed and set up the next one. Tread closed its first round of VC funding needing exactly that kind of speed, with tight timelines to expand the product before its investors' expectations outran what the team could deliver. Ollon stayed engaged for a year and a half, through the full stretch of that growth period, building out the invoicing and analytics features the product needed to keep pace. Tread came out the other side of that funding driven growth pressure as an established, successful startup.

Data and Analytics

Tread's platform needed to track and surface data on the construction material movement and invoicing activity happening across it. Ollon built that analytics capability using Looker, creating dashboards that tracked material movement, trucking efficiency, and financial performance across the platform. Those dashboards served both truckers needing an operational view of their own activity and Tread's leadership needing an executive view for business decisions. This work ran throughout Ollon's year and a half on the Tread engagement, growing alongside the other features delivered over that time.
